WHAT WE DO
Standard Poodles Australia’s, Training – Habituation – Socilaisation – Gut Health - Independant Temperament Testing and Grooming Programs are what set us apart from other breeders. We are committed to your puppy being the best it can be!
TRAINING
Our training program starts at 3 days of age with Early Neurological Stimulation (ENS). All puppies have human interaction all day which starts at 5am and finishes at 10pm. Over the 9-10 weeks pups are with us they follow a strict training regime to ensure they go to their new homes as advanced as they can possibly be.
Manding (asking for something with a look rather than jumping up), walking on unstable surfaces, plank and see-saw walking, tunnel play, balance boards, potty training, sit, shake hands, resource guarding and much more.
INDEPENDENT TEMPERAMENT TESTING
Standard Poodles Australia have every Puppy independently temperament tested at 7-8 Weeks of age to assess their suitability with individual families and what they are looking for in a puppy.
As breeders, living daily with our pups we can become biased in our own assessments so we engage an independent expert to do Volhard’s Testing or (PAT) Puppy Aptitude Testing.
These tests assess Sound, Sight and Touch Sensitivity. Social Attraction, Following, Restraint, Social Dominance, Elevation, Retrieving, Stability and the Overall Structure of the Puppy.
HABITUATION
Pups are exposed to many different sounds initially by audio played at intervals during the day including, thunderstorms, traffic, children, other animal noises, doorbells, and fireworks.
Textures - including pebble surfaces, grass, concrete, imitation grass, and different textured mats.
Smells - including herbs, leaves, coffee, tea, and other daily smells they will encounter during their lives.
GUT HEALTH
A puppy’s gut health is set very early in their life. Feeding different Microbiota and starches sets the pups gut health for the rest of its life before that window closes. We introduce in very small amounts goat milk kefir, fermented vegetables, fermented fruits, and other probiotics. Finely mashed potato, organic oats and fine rice feed the microbiota. Pups that are raised with this are far more resistant to gut health issues such as irritable bowel syndrome. A breeder in the US who started using this technique has a litter of puppies that are now 16 years old. Puppies are all fed a 100% Raw Food Diet and are given different proteins each week including fresh chicken, duck, beef, turkey, lamb, and salmon. All the Raw Food Standard Poodles Australia uses is human grade fresh meat and contains fruits and vegetables.
SOCIALISATION
During their time with us, puppies are introduced to different people who we have visit them. Strict hygiene practices are put in place and pups are introduced to people with hats, sunglasses, beards, and children. As the puppies get older, we have “Puppy Parties” where we invite selected people to participate in some training with them.
This is very beneficial to the puppy’s development.
As they get older, we have a fully enclosed push cart that all the puppies fit into and we take them to our local café strip, harbour, near train lines and around buses.
They are exposed to a variety of sounds, smells and interaction without being touched.
GROOMING
From 2 weeks of age, all puppies have brushes and clippers (with no blade) run over their body for 2 minutes each day. They have their nails trimmed at least once per week from 1 week old.
This sets them up for their future grooming requirements. Puppies have their faces, tail butts and paws shaved from 3 weeks of age.
This is done weekly until they leave us. They are familiar with and will have had several baths, blow dry’s and play in a small pool to get them familiar with water.
Feel free to email us with any questions in relation to any of the above.
